On April 11, 2024, at the University of Agriculture and Forestry, the Institute of Biotechnology and Food Technology (IBFT) and Vietnam Beer Alcohol and Beverage Technology Corporation (VinaBeco) conducted a signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding to further strengthen the cooperative relationship in training, scientific research, and human resource development as a part of the long-term sustainable multilateral development strategy of the two parties.
Overview of the Institute of Biotechnology and Food Technology (IBFT)
The Institute of Biotechnology and Food Technology (IBFT), formerly known as Faculty of BioTechnology and Food Technology, was established on May 06, 2010 according to Decision No. 405/QD-DHTN of the Director of Thai Nguyen University. Since January 30, 2024, according to Resolution No. 04/NQ-HDT, the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Technology was approved by the Council of Agriculture and Forestry University to transform into a Research and Training Institute model named the Institute of Biotechnology and Food Technology.
The IBFT is an underlying unit of Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry and has legal status and its own seal and account opened in the State Treasury and Bank; it self-controls and takes self-responsibility for scientific and technological activities and services according to the law and the regulations of the University of Agriculture and Forestry.
Total number of officers, public employees of the Institute as of January 2024 is 30 ones including full-time lecturers, visiting lecturers, and contract employees with the University and the Institute.
Functions of the Institute of Biotechnology and Food Technology:
– Undergraduate, Master’s and Doctoral training programs according to the general regulations of the University of Agriculture and Forestry
+ Undergraduate program: Biotechnology, Food Technology, Food Quality and Safety Assurance
+ Master’s program in Biotechnology
+ Doctoral program in Biotechnology
– Short-term training, vocational training cooperation, technician and college program in the field of Biotechnology and Food Technology according to the applicable laws
– Basic researches and applied researches on Biotechnology and Food Technology
– Conducting international cooperation activities under management of the University of Agriculture and Forestry
– Deploying authorized production – business activities as stipulated by the applicable laws and scientific and technological services with revenue.

The IBFT has close cooperation relationship with many universities and research institutes of the countries such as Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China, Thailand, Russia, English, Germany and Ireland … and some non-governmental organizations. On annual basis, the IBFT has about 50-60 students participating in student exchange and internship programs in the countries such as Japan, Israel, Korea, Taiwan, Danmark and Australia …; admits 10-20 international students to the Institute for study and research exchange. On a yearly average basis, the IBFT organizes 3-5 missions to attend conferences and seminars and study aborad and welcomes 5-7 international missions to attend seminars and build general research programs and laboratory in the field of biotechnology and food technology.
On April 11, 2024 at the University of Agriculture and Forestry, a ceremony to announce the establishment of the Institute of Biotechnology and Food Technology took place.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen The Hung, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the University Council awarded a decision;
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hung Quang – Rector of the University gave congratulation flowers;
Dr. Luong Hung Tien – General Director of the Institute of Biotechnology and Food Technology received decision and congratulation flowers;

Mr. Tran Trung Kien – Deputy Director of Vinabeco signed a strategic development cooperation contract between the two parties and gave flowers to congratulate the Institute on the day it received the establishment decision.
Two parties undertake to focus on cooperation in the following fields:
– Cooperation in human resource training and development
– Cooperation on scientific research and technology transfer
– Cooperation in international relations, partner connection and image promotion
